Just want to put this out there. If renting were so much better than owning, then why are there even landlords in the first place (aka owners)?
While I agree that the societal push towards owning a home at all costs is bad, it is a good long-term decision for a lot of people (but not as many as the media would have you believe). Being house poor (where all or most of your net worth is in a house) is bad, but owning when you plan to live there for a long time will ultimately save you money on rent over time, and 10 years from when you purchased the place, your "rent" (mortgage) will be virtually the same as when you started (slight property tax increases as your property value increases, slight maintenance cost increases) whereas your rent will have increased 3-5% per year which really adds up quickly.
So while I agree with you in pushing back against encouraging people to become house poor, I have to ask: who hurt you and why are you so bitter?
