The biggest problem with in-office work for me is the inflexibility of the day. It’s not about having to show up 5 times a week, it’s having to show up for 7 to 8 hours every time I do show up. If I could just show up at the office for a few hours in the afternoon, I probably would do that fairly often, but the reality is that showing up for just a few hours has a lot of negative social stigma (even if it shouldn’t) in office culture. So I’d rather work from home where we’re all on the same playing field, and I can put in my 2-4 hours of productive focused work every day (plus the occasional zoom meeting) and get the rest of my time back. Many office workers don’t really need the full 8 hour day to do their job, myself included, and remote work has unlocked so much more time every day as a result.
